The CIVICUS World Assembly PDF Print

The CIVICUS World Assembly is the primary venue where civil society, donors, government, business and media convene to act collaboratively towards strengthening the rights of every individual to Exist, Express and Engage!

The CIVICUS World Assembly's strength is its ability to act as a forum where these traditionally unconnected sectors engage in constructive dialogue to act collaboratively towards the strengthening of civil space.

The overall theme of every World Assembly is ‘Acting Together for a Just World'; this is explored further through the focus theme. In the most recent World Assembly (2008) the focus theme was People, Participation and Power which was about civil society accessing, engaging and participating in all forms and spheres of governance at the local, national and international levels.

Montreal will host the 9th CIVICUS World Assembly from August 28th to 31st in 2009, and for the following three years. Institut du Nouveau Monde has been selected by the CIVICUS movement leaders to organise this World Alliance for Citizen Participation's 9th, 10th and 11th world assemblies in Montreal. This event will be held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

The CIVICUS Youth Assembly

The inaugural Youth Assembly was held in May 2007 and 150 young people participated from 66 Countries. The 2008 event took place immediately before the World Assembly from 16 - 18 June 2008.

The Youth Assembly offers a unique opportunity for young people to meet and work with other young people who are really making changes to things that matter. It aims to bring the world's most engaged, dynamic young activists in the field of social and civic Justice.
