CIVICUS and Volunteerism: Recognising the importance of volunteerism for citizen participation, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, renewed a 2004 Memorandum of Understanding with the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) and the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Programme to jointly promote a greater awareness of the value of volunteers and volunteer action to society, particularly for advancing widely held development goals such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
