A central component of the online resource centre is an on-line database of 50+ participatory governance tools and approaches, consisting of practical "how-to" tools descriptions and selections of key resources. The resource centre will also serve as a platform through which PG practitioners engage in peer-learning and sharing of information, in addition to the sharing of practical experiences on participatory governance methods and key issues.

Second Round of Regional Skills-Building Programmes

After an initial series of Regional Skills-Building Programmes in Southern and West Africa, South America and South Asia.  The CIVICUS Participatory Governance is pleased to announce that we are expanding our skills-building activities into three more regions. In the second round, we are organising, in close collaboration with our partner organisations, skills-building programmes in Central America, North Africa and the Middle East (MENA), and in South/South-East Asia (for more information click here).

The objective of these programmes is to enhance the practical skills and knowledge of Southern-based practitioners, from civil society and government alike, to undertake participatory governance. Simultaneously, the programme seeks to promote opportunities for networking, peer support and alliance-building as well as to promote innovation and evolution of participatory governance practices in the region. The activities consist of an initial workshop in each region that brings together participants from 3-4 neighbouring countries to learn, discuss and connect around methods for enacting successful participatory governance practices, while exchanging success stories and examining common challenges and opportunities across the region. At the end of the workshop, the participants are invited to form a regional network for continued peer-learning and dialogue as well as prepare proposals for mentoring (including e-mentoring and site visits) to support them in their participatory governance activities. The participants can also apply for a limited number of small grants to help their organisation to apply an innovative participatory governance method in their locality.

- Article by Guy Holloway

(14/11/2008)

It is clear that the world is increasingly in need of change in the way it manages itself. The survey was available in four languages online (Arabic, English, French and Spanish|).
