Member Benefits
CIVICUS currently has more than 450 members in 110 countries. You and your organisation can make a difference by becoming a CIVICUS member and becoming an integral part of a global movement working to enhance civil society.
Become a CIVICUS member and:
- Support CIVICUS’ vision and mission as part of a diverse global alliance of Civil Society Organisations and Individuals;
- Learn more about CIVICUS and current international civil society issues and debates through an automatic subscription to our electronic newsletters: Members’ Matters Quarterly; e-CIVICUS; and, the Civil Society Watch Monthly Bulletin;
- Share information with CIVICUS and CIVICUS Members via CIVICUS’ Membership Lounge (a section of the CIVICUS website for Members’ only) and CIVICUS’ electronic newsletters;
- Contribute to, and benefit from, CIVICUS programmes;
- Secure reduced registration fees to CIVICUS meetings, including the World Assembly; and,
- Participate in the Governance of CIVICUS by participating in CIVICUS Board elections.

In addition to the previously listed benefits, when you become a CIVICUS member you can:
I. Become part of a diverse global alliance of Civil Society Organisations
- Networking –Share information on CIVICUS’ website, the Membership Lounge, and e-CIVICUS. Member Organisations can also participate in e-CIVICUS Member Profiles.
- Learning channels –Join and/or network with the CIVICUS Affinity Group of National Associations (AGNA), consisting of more than 50 national civil society umbrella organisations from across the globe.
- Information exchange –Access the Membership Lounge on the CIVICUS Website where Members can post news, publications, and announcements, and have access to the Members Directory. Members can also share information on the Members listserv at

II. Strengthen the influence of civil society around the world
- Mobilisation and solidarity–Join forces with other CSOs and be involved in a range of advocacy and campaigning initiatives led by CIVICUS and/or its partners.
- Knowledge building –Receive an automatic subscription to CIVICUS electronic newsletters, e-CIVICUS and the Civil Society Watch (CSW) Monthly Bulletin (see pgs 2-3). Members also receive a special discounted rate on all CIVICUS publications, including the CSI Programme reports on more than 50 countries on the current state of civil society.
- Capacity building –Learn from a wide range of capacity building on-line toolkits (available in English, Spanish and French here).
III. Participate in CIVICUS organised events to share knowledge and link common interests
- World Assembly – Participate in one of the largest civil society conferences, where civil society activists engage, dialogue and debate with each other as well as with governments, donors, businesses, and international institutions. Members receive a special delegate rate and can also apply for a bursary. To learn more, click here.
- Workshops –Take part in a range of training workshops held at the World Assembly, and others coordinated by CIVICUS (i.e. MDG advocacy/campaigning workshops).
IV. Engage with a wide spectrum of stakeholders
- Lobbying and advocacy –Support civil society and citizen’s rights through activities coordinated by CIVICUS such as government lobbying, advocacy missions, appeals, rallies and concerts.
- Collaboration with CSOs –Join forces with other CSOs to engage and influence local and national governments, and international institutions on a range of policy issues (i.e. governance, development, debt and trade).
V. Participate in the governance of CIVICUS
- Members meetings –Attend the Annual Members Meeting held during the World Assembly and various country Members Meetings held by CIVICUS staff (see country Members Meetings schedule posted regularly on the Membership Lounge).
- Board elections –Input into the governance of CIVICUS through involvement in the nomination and election of the CIVICUS Board of Directors.
- Strategic planning –Provide guidance to CIVICUS programmes and activities by being involved in CIVICUS’ Strategic planning process.
