The 1st full implementation phase of the CIVICUS Civil Society Index (CSI) is about to begin. Over the last two months, CIVICUS has reviewed some 60 applications to participate in the CSI as national partners. Due to this strong interest, CIVICUS decided to split up the next implementation phase in at least two rounds.
Round 1 is beginning in April 2003 and round 2 in mid-/late 2003. Below please find the list of countries participating in the respective rounds.

Meanwhile, the CIVICUS CSI team's human resources are growing. The team is happy to welcome Tim Gibbs to the team. Tim recently completed an M.A. in Development Studies at University of Natal, Durban and will be doing a 6-months internship with the CSI team. By next week, Navin Vasudev will join CIVICUS as the CSI Project Coordinator. Navin is a development specialist from India who has extensive experience in project design and management and has worked with NGOs, international donors and governments. Together with CSI Project Manager Finn Heinrich, Navin will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the CSI implementation phase.
